Apple iMacs Get Retina Displays

Apple has brought the Retina 4K display to the 21.5-inch iMac and the Retina 5K display to every 27-inch iMac. The new Retina displays boast a wider colour gamut and better image quality, promising sharper text and more vivid images. The updated iMacs also feature more powerful processors and graphics, two Thunderbolt 2 ports and new storage options for the Fusion Drive.

The 21.5-inch iMac is available with the Retina 4K display featuring a 4096 x 2304 resolution and 9.4 million pixels, 4.5 times more than the standard 21.5-inch iMac display.

Every 27-inch iMac features a Retina 5K display, the world’s highest resolution all-in-one display with 14.7 million pixels — 7 times more pixels than an HD display.

Fusion Drive combines the storage capacity of a hard drive with the performance of flash to deliver shorter boot times and faster access to apps and files. Fusion Drive works in conjunction with OS X to adapt to the way its user utilises the iMac, automatically moving the user's favourite files and apps to flash storage. The Fusion Drive pairs a 1TB hard drive with 24GB of fast flash — or, for more demanding workloads, a 2TB or 3TB hard drive with 128GB of fast flash.

Every new Mac comes with OS X El Capitan, the latest version of OS X. The version offers updates to window management, built-in apps and Spotlight search. El Capitan was specifically designed for the Retina display and features a new Retina display-friendly system font called San Francisco.
