Apple Unveils iPhone 6s

Apple has announced upgrades to the two models in its iPhone 6 series. The new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are the same size as their 6 series predecessors though they have numerous tweaks. The phones go on sale in the UK and US and other countries on September 25 with no details yet for Ireland.

Here are the fab and amazing new things in the iPhone 6s:

+ 3D Touch: As well as the phone sensing swipe, touch and pinch from your fingers, the iPhone 6s also responds to force. So if you press on the screen a bit, you can peek into an email message or whatever without actually having to open it. Apple calls the new gestures Peek and Pop — dip in and out of content without losing your place. With Quick Actions, 3D Touch provides shortcuts to the things you do most.

+ Aluminium case, with four metallic finishes - gold, silver, and space grey and rose gold. Glass is tougher too.

+ Live Photos: This is pretty cute. Every photo you take now has a ‘live’ bit before and after the actual snap. So the photo has a bit of motion and sound attached, sort of like the Snapchat effect, only briefer.

+ A9 Chip: much more power than the current A8, says Apple. The 64-bit chip is a 70% faster CPU and 90 percent faster GPU performance than the A8, plus promised gains in energy efficiency for battery life. M9, Apple’s next-generation motion coprocessor, is embedded into A9.

+ 12 Megapixel Camera: quite an upgrade from the current model. The front FaceTime camera is improved to 5MP and, cleverly, the phone screen is now used as the FaceTime camera flash for selfies in the dark.

+ 4K Video, with a resolution of 3840 x 2160, delivering over 8 million pixels. Addition of optical image stabilisation to video on iPhone 6s Plus helps videos in lower light.

+ Faster WiFi too – up to 50% says Apple – and support for 23 LTE bands for better worldwide roaming.

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models. Pricing will be same as for the existing iPhone 6 range, which will be reduced in prince once the S series is launched.
