A local shopping initiative that began last year in the Ballinasloe has been shortlisted for the .IE Digital Town Awards.
ShopBallinasloe.ie is a joint initiative between local marketing agency Araya Business Support Services, run by Honoria Mitchell Black and Niamh Creaven Connaughton, and Kickstart Web Design, where the partners are Joe Glennon and David Ansley.
The digital town awards, launched by the Irish domain registry last year, recognise the work and achievements of towns across Ireland that have used digital technologies to create new ways of doing things, to promote innovation and to breathe new life into local communities.
The shortlisted projects cover 14 categories, there’s a prize fund of €100,000, and the winners will be announced at a virtual awards event on Thursday June 10.
ShopBallinasloe.ie was established in April 2020 to enable shoppers to connect with and purchase from local businesses in Ballinasloe. At the time, many doors were closed, and there were uncertain times ahead for many local businesses.
Honoria Mitchell Black commented: “One year on, although many doors remain closed there is a new hustle and bustle behind the scenes, as businesses are busy preparing their online orders for their customers, whatever part of the world they may be in, or accepting town vouchers where businesses are open.
“Shopballinasloe.ie now hosts an even wider variety of products from lots of different local businesses, allowing shoppers to browse multiple products and services and check out in one single transaction, with their order shipped from the supplier straight to their home.”
