Barclays Bank Ireland is looking for Irish FinTech startups to apply for the Barclays London Accelerator Programme, an intensive 13-week programme for early-stage financial technology startups, providing seed funding, mentoring, networking and the use of co-working facilities.
Applications are now open for the third intake of the London programme, which has already facilitated 21 companies. A recruitment event will be held in Dublin on September 21.
Ten companies chosen will receive up to $120,000 in investment along with coaching, networking and the use of technology. The investment will come from Techstars, made up of $20,000 of initial equity funding and an additional $100,000 convertible loan note that the companies have the option of taking.
Successful applicants will be based at the Barclay’s London Escalator open space, designed to provide an environment for entrepreneurs to thrive and network.
Martin Cass, vice president at Barclays Ireland, said there have been a number of successes from the programme. “This is the ideal opportunity for any company passionate about digital technology to help shape the future of the financial services industry.
“Ireland has nurtured and produced a very significant number of successful tech entrepreneurs, and has a national focus on FinTech through its IFS2020 strategy. We’re therefore very keen to see some Irish entries and pioneering ideas this year. I’m confident the programme could provide them with a lifetime opportunity to make global connections and bring their ideas onto an international stage.”
The programme is held in conjunction with startup accelerator Techstars, which has run over 60 programmes since 2007.
Cass added that seven of the 10 companies that participated in the last Accelerator programme in London are currently pursuing contracts or experiments with the bank. “This demonstrates the quality and standard of the work being produced,” said Cass.
The deadline for applications is October 14. The Accelerator programme will begin in January 2016.
