At Nestlé, we unlock the power of food to enhance quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come. We believe that long-term success goes hand in hand with creating value for our shareholders and for society as a whole. As the world’s leading nutrition, health and wellness company, working to create social, environmental and economic value is central to how we do business.

Sustainability

As the Good Food, Good Life Company, we believe that good food also respects our planet and protects resources for future generation. Helping advance the health of our planet and ensuring there will always be enough nutritious food grown sustainably is key to everything we do. Our aim is to grow our business while reducing our impacts on the environment through a sustainability strategy for each of our brands and for our company as a whole

Recyclable Packaging

Building on our commitment to make 100% of packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025, Nestlé will reduce its use of virgin plastics by one-third in the same period whilst working with others to advance the circular economy and endeavour to clean up plastic waste from oceans, lakes and rivers.

We have introduced recyclable paper wrappers on our new YES! snacks range and popular Smarties sharing block, and will be investing up to €1.9 billion to accelerate the development of innovative sustainable packaging solutions.

Our Nestlé Cocoa Plan and Nescafé Plan aim to improve the lives of cocoa and coffee farmers and the quality of their products – since 2015, we are the first confectionery company in Ireland to use 100% certified sustainable cocoa for all our confectionery.

Nutrition, Health and Wellness

Sugar Reduction: In three years, we have removed over 2.4 billion teaspoons of sugar and 60 billion calories from our UK and Irish products, alongside the reduction of salt and saturated fat across many products, while maintaining the quality and taste people love.

In Association with

Some examples of this have been the Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles and Randoms with 30% less sugar, Milkybar with increased milk content, and increased milk and cocoa content in KitKat. Improved recipes have been developed with less sugar and more wholegrain for Cheerios and Shreddies.

Diversity & Inclusion: Nestlé Ireland has been awarded the Investors in Diversity Silver accreditation from the Irish Centre for Diversity, and Nestlé’s UK & Ireland LGBT+ Network was shortlisted as a Top 10 Network Group in the 2020 British LGBT Awards.

No Food Waste

Since 2018, Nestlé Ireland has contributed a total of 73,800 meals to community groups through FoodCloud’s redistribution model, which is the equivalent of avoiding 99 tonnes of CO2 from going to waste.

Supporting Our Communities

Our charity partner for 2019-2021 is Pieta House, and the team at Nestlé Ireland will work to raise over €100,000 across the three-year partnership to provide Pieta House with support for their services.

Over €7.5m has been raised for Childline in a 16-year partnership, supporting almost 400,000 calls to its service, which assists children in distress. We have also been proud supporters of Dublin and Cork Simon over the past 10 years, providing them with 3.25 million cups of Nescafé coffee and thousands of KitKats.

During Covid-19, Nestlé Ireland substantially stepped up its existing support and established new relationships to aid those on the frontlines and the most vulnerable in our communities. Providing additional financial aid to FoodCloud, the Irish Red Cross and the DSPCA, as well as supporting organisations like the HSE, Order of Malta Ireland, the Irish Cancer Society, the Dublin Simon Community, MADRA, Limerick Animal Welfare and Ash Animal Sanctuary with the supplies needed for their operations, Nestlé has contributed over €290,000 in product and financial assistance since the onset of Covid-19.
