Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI) and global travel retail player Aer Rianta International (ARI) have opened a second Design Ireland store in duty free at Dublin Airport's Terminal 1.
The outlet will retail products handmade in Ireland from 28 Irish designers of jewellery, glassware, prints, textiles, and accessories, with plans to expand the collection in time.
The first Design Ireland store at Dublin Airport opened at Terminal 2 in 2019, and ARI hs worked closely with selected brands to curate exclusive collections that will only be available at the airpot.
“At ARI, we are committed to championing the best of local to create a true sense of place across all our stores,” said Anthony Kenny, ARI’s chief commercial officer and deputy CEO at ARI.
“The Design Ireland store in Terminal 2 has been a great success since opening its doors in 2019, so we are proud to extend the offering to Terminal 1 and to showcase the very best of contemporary hand-crafted Irish design to the thousands of passengers who travel through the airport each day.”
Both Design Ireland stores are operated by The Loop Duty Free, with the store name brand under licence by DCCI. DCCI's Design Ireland showcase currently includes 309 brands.
Rosemary Steen, CEO of DCCI, said: “We are delighted to once again partner with ARI and Dublin Airport to bring the work of Ireland’s highly talented and creative craft and design sector to such an international audience.
"Design Ireland showcases the diverse range of makers and high-quality products being produced in studios all over Ireland. Located in Dublin Airport the Design Ireland outlets offer travellers the perfect opportunity to take a beautiful piece of Ireland with them as a gift to themselves or to others.”
