Spending €20 with local businesses generates €30 for the Irish economy, according to research for Guaranteed Irish conducted by KPMG.

The findings come as Guaranteed Irish encourages consumers to shop locally in its Christmas campaign, which encourages shoppers to 'Get the G under the Tree'.

“This year, more than ever, it’s vital to celebrate and support the incredible work of Irish businesses," said Brid O'Connell, CEO of Guaranteed Irish.

"Every euro spent locally strengthens our economy, sustains jobs, and supports vibrant communities. By choosing Guaranteed Irish, you’re not just buying a gift—you’re making a difference.

"Now we know that spending €20 with our members on a gift this Christmas will put €30 back into the economy.”

The organisation representing businesses in Ireland that meet its standards for jobs, community and provenance has found that 76% of its members have benefitted by featuring the Guaranteed Irish symbol at point of service and on packaging, marketing materials or digital communications.

The research also shows €59.3m in estimated total expenditure on social value initiatives by all Guaranteed Irish member businesses, showing the importance of local communities to members.

Guaranteed Irish said it is the national symbol of trust for businesses operating in Ireland.
