The remaining 700 customers who lost power during Storm Éowyn last month could be reconnected to the grid by today, ending one of the most extensive power outages in the State’s history, writes Ken Murray.
ESB Networks said last night that its mission to reconnect almost 800,000 properties to the national grid is almost complete.
Yesterday, Paul Hand of the ESB said: “We expect that less than 700 customers impacted by the storm will be without power overnight.
“Work will continue to reconnect these customers from first light.”
The ESB said it anticipated pockets of customers, mainly in parts of Co. Roscommon, north Co. Galway, Co. Mayo and south Co. Leitrim, would without electricity overnight.
“If customers are in a position to, then we recommend that they check www.PowerCheck.ie for further details,” Mr Hand advised.

The ESB added that, given the extensive damage to the electricity network and the volume of the repairs completed, it was asking customers who have not previously reported loss of power to contact the company on 1800 372 999.
“The public should remain vigilant to the possibility of unidentified low-hanging wires, and should these be encountered, please keep away and report them to us immediately,” Mr Hand said.
