Facebook has announced the testing of ad features which will allow users to shop for clothes and other products directly through its app.
The announcement marks Facebook's move further into e-commerce, to compete with online retail giants such as Amazon. The social media company's angle is that online shoppers have thus far been limited by slow and cumbersome mobile options, but according to Reuters Facebook hopes to smooth the mobile shopping process.
The new features include ads that lead users to view and purchase products without being redirected to a third-party site. Additionally, businesses will be able to display products for purchase directly on their Facebook pages via a 'buy now' button.
The revamped Facebook app also includes a shopping page, where users can browse brands and products.
