Glenveagh Living, a subsidiary of Glenveagh Properties, has submitted a planning permission application for a development of 853 homes at Oscar Traynor Road in Coolock, north Dublin.

The development would also include designated public space and community amenities for the use of the wider community in Coolock, Beaumont, Santry and Kilmore.

Dublin City Council selected Glenveagh to partner on the development following a competitive tender, and all homes at the site will be developed as social housing, cost-rental housing, or affordable purchase housing in line with the government’s Housing for All plan.

Glenveagh said all homes would be A-rated for energy efficiency and would incorporate sustainable and renewable technologies.

Subject to planning permission, the company has indicated that it will be in a position to commence work at the site from Q4 2023, with a view to the first houses being completed by late 2024.

The application envisages that over 20% of the overall site will be designated as public space, with public parks and biodiverse green spaces, allotments, woodlands, cycle trails, and play areas. There are also plans for a mixed-use community centre and a childcare centre.

“We are very proud of our record for being a trusted partner and for delivering homes and communities of the highest quality," said Glenveagh Properties' Wesley Rothwell

"For this project, we have worked in a ground breaking partnership structure with Dublin City Council and we have worked very closely with the local community, local residents' associations and local councillors on the preparation of this planning application.

"This is one of the outstanding sites in Dublin and we are committed to delivering this much-needed housing as well as amenities to Coolock and the surrounding areas of Santry, Beaumont, and Kilmore.”

Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy commented: "The submission of the planning application is a very significant moment for the Oscar Traynor Road project. This scheme will deliver 853 public homes over the next few years if planning is successful.

"The Council would like to acknowledge the work of all the stakeholders in the pre-submission phase including Glenveagh Living, the local community and consultative forum, the DCC project team and to also recognise the support of the local councillors in the North Central area."
