A new house-sharing platform called RooMigo, aimed at matching compatible housemates, has been launched from a Dublin base.
RooMigo is a property rental platform where people find compatible housemates based on shared interests and lifestyle choices. If you are someone renting out a spare room, instead of having to read through endless e-mails trying to find the perfect housemate, you browse profiles on RooMigo and connect with the right people.
Room-seekers create profiles on RooMigo which include their photo and a short biography. They select their most important lifestyle choices, such as a mix of hobbies, interests and the way they like to live in a house-share situation. Members connect based on these lifestyle choices to find a room, find a roommate, or find someone to team up with in their search for accommodation.
The site ‘soft-launched’ a few months back and the company is now setting out to raise capital to develop, with an eye to expansion internationally.
Founder and chief executive Ed Burke said: “The housing crisis is causing more people to live in shared accommodation. The people with whom we share a home are just as important, if not more important, than the property itself. With close to 5,000 engaged members since our beta launch in mid-June, we have had an incredibly positive response to our product.”
RooMigo also runs free housemate meet-up events to help people meet new friends and potential housemates. It seems to work, if comments from among the users are anything to go by."
Burke instanced Jennifer Paine, who moved from the Netherlands to Ireland to a job with LinkedIn. She commented: “I knew it would be a challenge to find a room in Dublin but I also wanted to find friends and build a network here. I was delighted to find a great housemate on RooMigo so quickly. Like me, Bettina also works in a busy office and we’re both keen to make the most of Dublin in our time off.”
Pain'e housemate Bettina Caspersen added: “I moved from Copenhagen to Dublin. It’s great to have a platform where you can find housemates that you have things in common with, share interests and hobbies with as well.”
