FTSE100 trade kitchen supplier Howdens is set to open six depots in Ireland over the next year, with the first in Stillorgan industrial estate having started trading on Thursday (5 May).
The opening of the Sandyford store will be followed by the opening of outlets at Westlink industrial estate in Ballyfermot next week (14 May) and Ballymount Road in Walkinstown next month (13 June).
Further outlets will open in Glasnevin industrial estate (4 July) and Feltrim business park in Swords (18 July) over the summer), with a store on the Boghall Road in Bray, Co Wicklow due to open next January.
Established in 1995, Howdens has grown to become one of the UK's leading trade kitchen suppliers, making a pre-tax profit of £390m last year, with 780 depots across Europe and 11,000 employees.
Following a period of record sales and increase demand for home renovations and refurbishments during the depths of the pandemic, Howdens was admitted to the FTSE100 in April.
The 10,000 sq ft Sandyford store is supported by the company's UK infrastructure and digital products and will stock kitchens, worktops, appliances, doors, joinery, flooring, and hardware.
"We are incredibly proud to bring Howdens to the Irish market and continue with our trade only model, with local stock availability at every depot," said Andrew Livingston, CEO of Howdens.
“Selling only to the trade means we can ensure that our expertly crafted products are fitted to the highest possible standard, and enable our locally-managed depots to build long-lasting partnerships with trade professionals in the community.”
Mark Campbell, Howdens Ireland country manager, added: “This is an exciting development in the kitchen industry in Ireland - offering kitchens to suit every home, style, and budget, but above all else delivering expert craftsmanship.
“What makes our business model so successful is the powerful combination of locally empowered depot management, and a dedicated supply chain that can deliver our Irish customers an always in-stock offer.”
