Irish fundraising platform iDonate has launched a new crowdfunding section that will enable users to raise funds for personal causes.
Before, iDonate’s users have been able to set up fundraiser pages, which are set up in aid of registered charities or organisations such as sports clubs.
The new move aims to emulate US based platforms such as GoFundMe in order to provide an Irish outlet for crowdfunding.
Users can set up a fundraiser in aid of medical treatment for a family member or friend, funeral expenses or the achievement of a goal, while users are vetted beforehand to ensure that the cause is legitimate.
The platform provides contactless donation tools, and supports payment from Stripe, PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay.
Established in Tuam in 2013, iDonate is led by Paddy Coyne and his son Alan Coyne.
The company’s abridged accounts for 2021 show current assets of €2.8m and creditors of €2.5m.
Alan Coyne, CTO of iDonate, said: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of our Crowdfunding Pages, and we want those who choose iDonate to know that they are choosing to support a family run, Irish owned business creating local jobs.
“Our expertise has informed the development of this expansion, so Crowdfunders and donors are safe in the knowledge that this is a service they can trust. This is going to greatly benefit Irish causes and in turn, ‘Make Giving Easier’ for Irish Crowdfunders.”
iDonate recently passed 4,000 fundraisers on its site, with a combined 1.6 million donors around the country, raising over €62m.
The firm's platform has been used for multiple national fundraisers, including Climb with Charlie and Ray D’Arcy’s Marathon Challenge for LauraLynn.
