Former Ryanair marketing head Kenny Jacobs appointed CEO of DAA

Kenny Jacobs has been appointed as CEO of DAA on a seven-year term, succeeding Dalton Philips, who left the airport authority for sandwich maker Greencore in September

The Cork native has extensive experience in marketing, commercial and operations in large consumer-service businesses, spending over six years at Ryanair, where he served as chief marketing officer.

He has also worked for major companies including the Metro Group, MoneySuperMarket, and Tesco in Ireland and the UK.

State-owned DAA operates both Dublin and Cork airports, a global airport retailing business through subsidiary Aer Rianta International, and international aviation consultancy and investment through DAA International.

In a trading update in September 2021, DAA said group turnover for the seven-month period to July 2021 was down 79% when compared to the same period in 2019.

DAA made a loss of €103.2m in 2021 after losing €187.4m in 2020, both years heavily affected by restrictions to air travel as a result of the pandemic.

The group recorded turnover of €324.1m and net assets of €908m. The company employs some 2,800 staff.

In a trading update in September 2021, group operating costs, after taking into consideration government supports, were cut by c. 54% when compared to the same period in 2019. Total net debt in July 2021 was €940m.

Group liquidity was c.€1,050m, comprising an undrawn €450m syndicated revolving credit facility and cash of €600m.
