A new technology event aiming to inspire the next generation of Irish coders and entrepreneurs will take place in the RDS on June 18. Called ‘Launch’d’, the one-day event will be hosted in parallel with CoderDojo’s 2016 Coolest Projects awards.

One hundred of Ireland’s most promising tech startups, as well as more than 50 international speakers, will participate in Launch’d. Members of the public can apply for free tickets to the event here.

At CoderDojo Coolest Projects 2016, 800 young coders from around Ireland and internationally will showcase their ideas and innovations, including apps, games and devices.

Running alongside, Launch’d will feature mentors from top game developers, startup founders and international thought leaders, who will support and advise both Coolest Projects participants and the startups involved, as well as the wider tech community.

Noel King, founding member of Coolest Projects, said that Launch’d will allow Coolest Project participants to launch their ideas, as well as support the startup community in Europe.

He added: “Our talks will focus on software delivery and architecture, sales and marketing, communication, pitching and funding. We want attendees to learn new technology techniques, while also gaining valuable insights from founders and innovators who have delivered amazing products to market.

“We also have streams on the most popular innovations at the moment, such as SAAS (on-demand software), internet of things, wearable tech, big data and analytics, mobile and games.”

King said that CoderDojo Coolest Projects is one of Europe’s biggest tech success stories over the past five years. “By bringing start-ups and further innovation into Coolest Projects, we will redefine the culture of the participants to launch, and provide support and a pathway to enable this.

“Launch’d will not only introduce the next generation of start-ups and innovators, it will also validate Ireland as a global technology hub and a magnet for tech businesses and entrepreneurs,” he continued.

Among the speakers participating in Launch’d are San Francisco-based IT thought leader and Lean Enterprise co-author Barry O’Reilly, and Australian John Ferguson Smart, regarded one of the most influential worldwide experts in modern development practice.

MasterCard’s chief innovation officer, Garry Lyons, the CEO of Orbiscom when it was bought by the payments giant for €100m, will speak on how to create and deliver innovation.

Other headline speakers include Philip Moynagh, VP of the internet of things group at Intel, Aidan Hughes, the Seattle-based CEO of Digitalchemy and inventor of the fraction calculator and calculator plus, Dublin startup commissioner Niamh Bushnell and CoderDojo co-founder Bill Liao.
