Fionnuala Ní Mhaeoileoin believes she has spotted a gap in the subscription gift box market with Letterbox Jox, a monthly service for the delivery of one pair of boxers and one pair of socks.
The founder said it’s a running joke in her house that every time she looks at her husband’s feet she sees a toe sticking out of a hole in his socks.
Ní Mhaeoileoin added that she researched sock subscription services to get her husband a Christmas present for a joke but there were very few in Ireland and none that did socks and boxers together.
“The only ones I could find were in the UK. I think we’ve all had bad experiences recently with buying online from the UK post Brexit, receiving text messages about import duties and having to pay out before you can get your parcel," she said.
“I thought to myself, ‘someone should offer this service in Ireland.’ My next thought was, ‘maybe I should be the one to do it!’.
According to Ní Mhaeoileoin, boxers are high quality, form-fitting style, while socks are dress-style socks.
“We use a range of suppliers to guarantee value and quality for our customers so colours and patterns vary month to month. We aim to ensure that our customers receive a variety of colours and styles over the course of their subscription,” she stated.
Letterbox Jox is due to launch in January 2023 and orders received before November 30 will receive their first order in early January.
“Those buying for a gift will receive a PDF gift subscription certificate by email to give to their gift recipient in time for Christmas explaining what they have been gifted," she said.
Readers of Business Plus can get 20% off their first order by using the code 'bp20' at checkout.
Ní Mhaeoileoin stressed the venture’s sustainability efforts, referencing plastic-free packaging, and that most deliveries in Ireland are by electric vehicle.
“The products are high quality so you know they will be worn and loved. We donate 5% of revenue to good causes in Ireland including charities supporting people experiencing homelessness and those in direct provision.
"I think many people share the idea that the men in their lives can be hard to buy gifts for and Letterbox Jox takes something ordinary, a gift of socks and jocks, and makes it a little bit more fun, different and special. Who doesn’t love to receive a little treat in the post every month!"
