The Revenue will contact c.300,000 property owners in the coming weeks to remind them they need to submit a local property tax (LPT) return for the 2022-25 valuation period after they missed November's deadline.

LPT returns for some 1.7m properties have been submitted but returns are overdue for a further 300,000 properties, including 160,000 for which LPT payment arrangements are in place.

"All residential property owners were required to submit an LPT return to Revenue last November. A key part of the return is selecting the LPT valuation band that applies to the market value of the property at 1 November 2021," said Katie Clair, head of Revenue's LPT branch.

"We are writing to property owners who haven’t yet submitted their LPT return as a reminder that it is a legal requirement to do so.

"Regardless of whether you have paid in full or have a rollover payment arrangement in place or even where you agree with the notice of estimate that Revenue has made for your property, you still need to file an LPT return to confirm the correct valuation band of your property. Such property owners now need to make sure that they engage with Revenue and submit their LPT return.”

Clair went on to urge all property owners who haven't filed their LPT return to "take immediate action" and take the opportunity to ensure they are fully compliant with their obligations, adding that the easiest way to file their return is online but a helpline is also available at (01) 738 3626.

As part of new laws governing local property tax, property owners were required to submit a valuation of their property that was accurate as of 1 November 2021, against which the level of tax they will pay annually for the period 2022-25 would be set.

In its headline results for 2021, the Revenue said it contacted 1.4m property owners in respect of nearly 2m properties about valuations for LPT, with 89% of returns filed online.

Some 81% of property owners were compliant in terms of returns, with 91% compliant in respect of payment.

Around €400m in new payments arrangements were made for 2022, including €124m that had already been paid, with a further €45m secured through annualised payment methods.
