At Bord Gáis Energy, your business can become more energy efficient, while saving money, through the Bord Gáis Energy Efficiency Partnership Scheme, an initiative that helps Irish businesses realise sustainable reductions in energy costs. For every kWh you save, we will provide an additional financial contribution towards your project. So the more you save, the more you get back from Bord Gáis Energy.
Through energy efficiency support and funding from Bord Gáis Energy, The Maryborough Hotel & Spa in Cork has reduced energy costs by 10%, receiving €27,000 in funding in 2015 for an LED lighting retrofit, along with additional energy efficiency upgrades.
The Maryborough Hotel & Spa, Douglas, Cork, was opened as a hotel in 1997 and became a Bord Gáis Energy gas customer in 2006. Today, the hotel has grown to 93 bedrooms and suites, conference and banqueting facilities, restaurant and bar, leisure club, and spa.
LED Lighting Retrofit
Some €18,000 of the funding was used to retrofit the entire building with LED lighting. While being significantly more cost effective than traditional lighting systems, the benefits of LED lighting also include longer life and less maintenance than incandescent bulbs.
A further €9,000 of funding was provided for energy improvements, including the reconditioning of a combined heat and power (CHP) unit, and the installation of an Eco-Cooler, which uses 90% less energy than an equivalent refrigeration system.
The Maryborough is environmentally conscious and always looking for ways to reduce its carbon footprint, according to General Manager, Justin McCarthy. The new energy efficiency measures, coupled with competitive gas supply charges, continue to drive long- term savings for the hotel, something that Justin attributes to the support and technical expertise of the BGE team.
The Bord Gáis Energy key account manager is in constant contact with the managers at The Maryborough Hotel & Spa, and both teams work closely to ensure the hotel gets the best possible value from its energy supply.
Funding & Other Supports
Both Bord Gáis Energy customers and non-customers can apply for financial support towards the capital cost of their energy efficiency projects. In addition to funding, BGE also offers a range of services and supports such as LED lighting solutions, Energy Audits and Employee Awareness schemes.
The 5-step process for funding application involves:
* Energy credit agreement.
* Technical evaluation of projects.
* Completion of construction phase.
* Measurement and verification.
* Drawdown of Bord Gáis Energy funding.
“Energy efficiency projects not only help businesses reduce their carbon footprint, but can also improve their bottom line”, says BGE Sales Development Specialist, David Meade. “We’re committed to providing our business customers with the best value possible, whether that’s through competitive energy supply rates or tailored energy efficiency support and funding. The Maryborough Hotel & Spa has already realised significant cost savings and I’m confident that management will see an ongoing reduction in their energy bills.”
