Mater Private Network has announced a €5.6 million investment in an advanced radiotherapy system to improve cancer treatment.

The private hospital group has purchased Ireland's first TrueBeam LINACs with HyperSigh, which uses higher-quality imaging to deliver faster, more precise treatment.

The new system is now available at the Mater's Dublin hospital and will soon be made available at its Limerick Radiation Oncology Centre to allow clinicians to target tumours with greater accuracy.

The group expects the system will improve outcomes as well as reduce both side effects and treatment times. Mater Private Network has invested €20m over the past five years to enhance cancer services.

"This is the first time this technology is available in the country. The TrueBeam LINAC with HyperSight is capable of producing high quality scans in just six seconds, enhancing the precision of tumour targeting while making treatment times quicker for patients," said Hugh Healy, director of cancer at Mater Private Network.

"Within our network, we will be able to offer best-in-class stereotactic-capable machines incorporating Varian HyperSight and Brainlab Exactrac Dynamic in both the east and west of the country, as part of the newest fleet of LINAC machines and planning CTs.

"We’re proud to be the first healthcare network in Ireland to introduce this treatment technology, reaffirming our commitment to ensuring that patients have access to the most advanced treatments available.”

Professor Daniel Cagney, clinical director of radiation oncology at Mater Private Network, said: “These new capabilities, including the TrueBeam LINAC with HyperSight and Brainlab Exactrac Dynamic, are transforming how we deliver radiotherapy.

"With clearer imaging and faster scans, we can ensure more precise treatment and personalised care. As the first and only healthcare network currently offering this technology, we’re ensuring more people have access to world-class treatment close to home.
