Motherland and sister company Event Junkies have joined forces and hired leading industry talent to create what's billed as one of Ireland’s most progressive companies for the production, post-production and delivery of film, commercials, online content, and music videos.
The two companies, both founded by Ross Killeen, have worked side by side but as separate entities with two different offers to the market.
Ross Killeen explained: “We are now a hybrid production company. We’ve taken two very different entities and combined them to create a single company that focuses on creativity no matter the platform.
"We’re bringing all our experience in the content world and combining it with the commercial and film nous of Motherland. We’re talent driven and have always had craft at the heart of everything we do.
"We’ve seen the changes in our industry over the past few years, so we wanted to adapt and build a company which is as agile as it is creative. To fully embrace this evolution we needed to refresh our brand as it really felt like we were bringing something new to the market.”
Event Junkies Ltd was incorporated in 2011 and Motherland Ltd was established in 2016. Both companies are owned by Rust Never Sleeps Holdings Ltd, also owned by Ross Killeen (42).
The holding company received dividends of €200,000 from its two subsidiaries in 2020, down from €310,000 the year before.
The holding company’s equity investment in the subsidiaries is €650,000, and its net worth in December 2020 was €1,560,000, including €710,000 in cash.
Motherland recently produced the IFTA nominated feature documentary, Love Yourself Today, which screened in theatres across the UK and Ireland last year.
It also represents directing talent, such as recent signing Rachel Carey, Kathryn Ferguson, commercial directors Finn Keenan and POB, along with emerging talents like Sam McGrath, Hugh Mulhern, Ellius Grace and Tara O’Callaghan.
A new brand logo (above) and website have been introduced to underline the company’s evolution.
According to Killeen: “Evoking nostalgia for the early digital age, the new logo is a font originally designed in 1999, a time synonymous with change.
“With the imperfect printing of the logo offering a natural human touch, the fresh design officiates Motherland as digital natives who skilfully blend human emotion into their work."
Steven Courtney, MD of Motherland, added: “Our entire team has worked incredibly hard over the past two years to rethink how we approach every aspect of creative and production.
“How audiences consume media is evolving at lightning speed and we now feel we have a company that can sit at the forefront of this evolution.”
Motherland has hired Margaret Levingstone as new Head of Production. She joins from Rothco, part of Accenture Song. Another new hire is Anthony McCaffery, who will lead up the post-production team.
“We are a production company with a fully integrated post team,” said McCaffrey. “This allows us to support the director and client the whole way through a project. We treat every platform as part of the core creative rather than an afterthought.”
