New and existing customers signed up to eir’s mobile offerings stand to gain as the company becomes the first Irish provider to abolish roaming charges within the European Union. Eir has  announced a range of mobile and bundle offerings that include free roaming and an additional 1Gb of data within the EU each month.

The new package means that customers who avail of these new plans can now use their monthly call and text allowances and an extra gigabyte of data anywhere in the EU at the same rates as at home.

Up to 40,000 existing mobile customers will also have the new benefit applied to their accounts before the end of next month. For new customers, free roaming is now available in a range of mobile plans, beginning at €20 a month, and in a quad bundle which offers mobile, broadband, home phone and TV for €30 monthly for the first 12 months, rising to €92 thereafter.

The package comes well before the mandatory June 2017 deadline for the end of roaming charges and just when holidays and breaks are on people’s minds.

Maeve O’Malley of eir said: “Our customers love value, have a big appetite for data and don’t want to worry about unplanned post-holiday phone bills. So ahead of the holiday season we wanted to give them something that would make their European trips even more enjoyable.”

Eir’s other mobile operator, Meteor, is also offering similar deals including charge-free roaming. Customers can change plans online or by calling eir’s helpline.
