The NewsBrands Engage event kicked off in the Morrison Hotel in Dublin on Tuesday morning, featuring research and case studies on the power of advertising as well as journalism’s enduring value to society.

The event featured a number of discussions and presentations, with the first presentation ‘Getting Up Close and Personal to the Irish Print and Digital News Lovers’ from Christine Matthews from Kantar Media focusing on the latest TGI (Target Group Index) data on the print and digital Irish news audience.

TGI helps media agencies, media owners and brands to build a complete understanding of their customers and to target them effectively.

From demographics to attitudes, leisure activities, media consumption, personal values and purchasing factors, TGI is the single source of consumer intelligence that reveals who we are, how we behave and the drivers behind decisions that we make.

During the event An Post's Marketing Lead Alice Grant and Mediaworks Board Director Caroline Hughes discussed the benefits of including news brand print and digital platforms in their communications planning to connect with the An Post audiences and to deliver impactful and effective communication strategies.

The Journalism Matters panel discussion saw a panel conversation about news journalism’s enduring power to set the wider news agenda, to shine a light on important social issues around the world such as climate, housing and direct provision, and to affect real change in our world.
