The school of business at NUI Galway has achieved re-accreditation for its Executive MBA programme with the international accreditation body AMBA, the Association of MBAs. The 2016 MBA programme will start next September at the university campus.
The Galway MBA programme has been accredited with AMBA since 2013, which places it among the 2% of MBA programmes worldwide which are accepted by the world body, internationally recognised as the global standard for all MBA programmes.
According to NUI Galway’s JE Cairnes School of Business and Economics, which presents the course, the MBA programme is a general management programme which enhances and develops business and management capabilities and prepares students for strategic leadership roles.
The programme places an emphasis on strategic decision making and develops practical and professional skills for success in complex environments. Among other elements, it:
- Develops managerial knowledge and skills that have immediate applicability
- Provides an opportunity to meet like-minded, ambitious executives from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences
- Challenges participants to think differently
- Expands the career choice and earning potential of participants
Martin Hughes of the School of Business and Economics said: “We know, for participants, the decision to study an MBA represents a major commitment, both in terms of time and money. This AMBA accreditation ensures that students’ investments are rewarded with the finest MBA education available.
“We have constant engagement with the business community and our programme reflects and aligns with developments in industry both nationally and internationally. Our class sizes are kept small, our lecturers are leading experts in their respective fields and continue teaching to the changing demands of the business world, which results in greater one-to-one attention and learning experience.”
Students are able to continue with their working lives while taking the course, and many have attested to its value for their careers, whether working in a classic company environment or already running their own business — like physiotherapist Ruth Kiely who took the course in 2012-2014 and praises it for offering the full range of disciplines she needed to handle the management, marketing and IT aspects of her business.
Kiely credits the qualification with giving her business a serious competitive edge and, via the international study trip to Fordham University in the US and the inter-disciplinary company project, enabling her to consolidate her knowledge and skills and discern possible future opportunities.
According to Hughes, graduates have significantly advanced their careers, with many being promoted, starting their own business, or changing careers after completing the programme.
Applications are now being accepted for the September start.
