Donut chain Offbeat Donuts is expanding to Cork, opening a €500,000 outlet on French Church Street in the second city.

Opening its ninth store, the store is the first move out of the capital for the chain, which received investment from BiaVest in 2021.

Offbeat Donuts has added to its range a 'county doughnut'.

It’s christened it the Cork Creamy Red, and describes it as “a rich, red velvet flavoured donut, filled with a cream cheese frosting and finished with red and white icing”.

It’s available only at the French Church Street outlet.

Offbeat was established in 2016 with its first shop in Pearse Station, founded by husband and wife duo Brian and Sandra O’Casey.

Brian O’Casey, himself a Cork native, said: “We are very excited to be expanding to Cork and bringing the magic of OffBeat dounut making to the city.

"We have secured a fantastic location in Cork City and we are thrilled to be launching our first store outside of Dublin. Offbeat Donut’s aim remains the same, and that is to revive the traditional bakery concept and simply to make dounut magic in every corner of the world.”

O’Casey added: “What will be interesting is to see whether consumers in Cork have different tastes to those in Dublin. We will be watching sales closely, and working on bespoke products if particular trends emerge that are exclusive to Leesiders.”

Offbeat Donuts competes with US outfit Krispy Kreme and Rolling Donut.

The chain has also bolstered its operations with the introduction of food deliveries with apps such as JustEat and Deliveroo.

Offbeat Donuts's Cork store is open from 8.30am to 7.30pm daily. To celebrate the opening, the first 300 customers today (Monday) will receive a free glazed doughnut.
