Retailer Penneys is to open its 37th store in Ireland on Thursday 15 September next at The Square shopping centre in Tallaght, Co Dublin.

Located on the ground floor of the centre, the new store covers 43,400 sq ft of space, with Penneys’ full ranges of fashion, homeware and beauty, including a Nails@Penneys salon.

The Tallaght store will be Penneys’ 37th in the country and the first new Penneys in Dublin in six years, following its opening in Liffey Valley shopping centre in December 2016. The new store is part of the retailer’s commitment to invest €250m in Ireland over the next 10 years, according to the company, and its doors will open at 9.00am on September 15.

Ireland head Damien O’Neill said: “We can’t wait to welcome our colleagues and customers into our fantastic new store in Tallaght. We know our customers have been waiting for Penneys at The Square for a long time.

“The store is now nearly ready, and we are really excited to finally open our doors next month. We’ll have something for everyone all at our everyday affordable prices. We’re proud to continue to expand Penneys in Ireland and keep investing in Irish retail.”

Jack Martin, head of retail for The Square centre, said: “This is a fantastic addition to the centre and will be widely welcomed by the community, not just in Tallaght but many of the surrounding areas. Our partnership with Penneys marks a significant step in our development and we are very excited about the opportunity that this brings.

“The people of Tallaght have been crying out for a Penneys store for over 20 years and I have no doubt will make this a hugely successful launch.”

Penneys recently said it would protect prices on more than a thousand essential kids’ products to help family finances go further amid the rising cost of living. “Shoppers at the new Tallaght store can be confident that this autumn, prices will be held across many of its most popular kids’ lines, from underwear to t-shirts, to dresses and jeans,” said the company.

Penneys operates as Primark outside Ireland, where it already has 36 stores, and has more than 400 in Europe and North America. Here, it is also developing a warehousing and distribution facility in Newbridge, Co Kildare, which is under construction.
