Customers new to Permanent TSB can now apply for a joint current account using the bank’s app, but existing customers can only do so in-person at a branch.
Permanent TSB ambassador, boxer Kellie Harrington, and her partner Mandy Loughlin launched the bank’s joint digital current account, which the bank says is part of its €150m investment in its digital banking services.
Chief technology officer Tom Hayes stated: “We are putting a lot of thought, backed by customer research, into making our digital channels including the desktop platform and our mobile app more efficient and easier to use.
“The launch of our joint application process for our digital current account journey on our mobile app is another big step forward in enhancing our offering for joint current account customers.
“We know it can be a real challenge for customers and couples to find the time to attend a branch together to open a new account. In launching this journey, we are providing customers with a seamless, secure and efficient process that supports them in opening their new joint current account, via their mobile, at a time and place that suits them best.”
Hayes added that PTSB’s enhanced online current account opening process for SMEs launched in 2022 makes it easier and faster for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies to get their accounts up and running by facilitating the majority of account opening requirements online.
PTSB’s Explore current account has a charge of €6 per month but there are no additional day-to-day transaction or contactless fees.
The bank is promising further enhancements to its mobile app this year, including the introduction self-service card management.
