PetSafe proves a winner for Radio Systems in Dundalk

Radio Systems is celebrating ten years in Dundalk, home of its European headquarters, and its PetSafe brand would appear to be very popular.

Radio Systems Corporation is a manufacturer of specialist pet and hunting products under the banners of the PetSafe and SportDOG brands.

The business was founded in 1991 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and acquired the Kurgo brand in 2018, adding a line of travel products focused on companionship.

Radio Systems Petsafe Europe Ltd was immune to the effects of Covid lockdowns in 2020, with turnover increasing by 17% to €34.3m.

The company booked a net profit of €1.9m, up from €1.7m, and net worth at year-end was €22.6m. Accumulated profit since inception in 2012 has amounted to €12m.

Only 5% of company sales are in Ireland, with most revenue sourced from customers in Europe (71%). Average pay for 53 employees on the payroll through 2020 was €46,500, and the company said that 65 people are currently employed, of whom two-thirds are from outside Ireland.

The company’ pet care products include toys, travel accessories, training systems, water fountains and feeders and pet doors. The SportDOG brand covers professional sport and hunting training gear. While the Kurgo brand offer high-quality outdoor gear for active dogs and owners.

Rob Candelino assumed the CEO role at Radio Systems in 2021, following a 25-year tenure at Unilever.

The company said enhancements have been made to company software and websites, as well as technology advancements from a customer care perspective, as the company looks to improve its e-commerce offering using AI enabled chatbots to help boost customer satisfaction and sales.
