St Patrick's Festival has appointed Richard Tiernery as its CEO, with responsibility for the development and implementation of strategy for the growth and organisational sustainability of the event.
Tierney has over 25 years' experience in the live entertainment and sport sectors and has worked with clients including Musgrave Group, Guinness, Smirnoff, Coca-Cola as a marketing agency professional.
In the live music, he has worked with leading promoters Aiken Promotions and Live Nation, and in 2001 he established his own agency, Ten Ltd, which acted as a sales and marketing service to companies in the music and events business.
Ten Ltd was involved in securing the naming rights to the 3Arena when it was known as the O2 and Bord Gáis Energy Theatre before Tierney moved in-house with Live Nation, where he managed the commercial partner portfolio for a two-year period.
Since 2013, Tierney has worked closely with Enterprise Ireland to develop entertainment-focused start-up companies; negotiated the naming rights deal for Belfast's SSE Arena; co-founded media business Entertainment for Business; and secured numerous commercial deals for music and sporting venues nationally.
"I am delighted and honoured to be appointed CEO of St Patricks Festival. Having the opportunity to work with this amazing team to produce and shape the future of such an iconic festival is a real privilege," said Tierney.
"Using decades of experience in the entertainment business in Ireland, I hope to steer the organisation to a new era of creative and commercial development, whilst expanding both the offering and the reach of the festival to new levels.”
Speaking on behalf of the Board of St Patrick’s Festival, Maree Gallagher, acting chair, said: “The Board of the Festival is thrilled to announce Richard Tierney as the new CEO of the organisation.
"His unique skillset, commercial acumen and extensive background in the events industry will complement and support the Festival team in delivering world class festival experiences for domestic and international audiences alike.
"We are confident that Richard’s knowledge and expertise will help strengthen partnerships, develop strategic alliances and drive the growth of the Festival in the years to come.”
