As the Open gets underway at St Andrews, 2019 champion Shane Lowry has launched his ambassadorship of e-commerce funding platform Wayflyer with a series of videos in which he uses golf to show e-commerce leaders how they can access funding with the Irish unicorn.

Styled as Head of Business MetaFores at Wayflyer, Lowry shared the light-hearted videos on his newly launched LinkedIn page. The videos look into the tendency of LinkedIn users' to equate business with golf, and have amassed 65,000 impressions in 24 hours since first posted.

Lowry was announced last month as an official brand ambassador of Wayflyer, which is valued at $1.6bn, as part of a three-year deal.

Lowry is also an investor in the company, having contributed to its $150m Series B funding round, alongside JP Morgan, DST Global, QED Investors and Guillaume Pousaz, among others.

Wayflyer expects to advance $2-2.5bn to clients this year, having provided $50m to e-commerce businesses in 2020 and $500m in 2021.

Aidan Corbett, co-founder and CEO of Wayflyer, said: “Shane is helping us bring to life a really important goal at Wayflyer - being a supportive and trusted partner of our customers.

"At our core, we help to make the ‘confusing’ simple and Shane’s role as Head of Business MetaFores - while jovial - is rooted in that important principle.

“Comparing golf with business is as common in the online workplace as forgetting to take yourself off mute, so what better way to launch Shane as our ambassador?

“In his role, he will effortlessly explain some of the more complicated elements of e-commerce funding via the medium of golfing metaphors - explaining how Wayflyer funds a fairer way from the fairway.”

Commenting on the launch, Lowry added: “I’m excited to make my LinkedIn debut as an entrepreneur, eCommerce investor and brand ambassador with Wayflyer. I’m also looking forward to my new role as Head of Business MetaFores at Wayflyer.

"There are many parallels between the journey of a professional golfer and that of a growing business, so hopefully I can add some value by sharing my learnings, insights and experience with the Wayflyer team and its customers across the globe in the years ahead."
