Shannon Airport is to become a sponsor of the Women’s Irish Open golf tournament, which takes place at Dromoland Castle from September 22 to 26 next.
The KPMG Women’s Irish Open will host the Ladies European Tour event, returning to Ireland for the first time since 2012, with more than 126 top golfers from Europe participating along with Irish players.
Shannon Group chief executive Mary Considine said: “We are delighted to become an official partner of the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, which is being held on our doorstep at the acclaimed Dromoland Castle, providing an opportunity to highlight the fantastic golfing talent we have here in this country and promote Shannon Airport to a world-wide TV audience.
“This event will bring a welcome boost to tourism in the region, along with significant Irish and international media coverage. We look forward to welcoming players and golf enthusiasts to the airport.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the calibre of golf courses here to overseas visitors and put Ireland top of mind as a premiere golfing destination.”
Last month, more than 30 private jets carried some of the leading global players to Shannon Airport for the JP McManus Pro-Am in Adare Manor.
For the women’s event, the airport plans a giveaway of tickets for the tournament via its Instagram and Facebook channels.
