Siemens to add 25 at Shannon site with €7m investment

Siemens Digital Industries Software is planning to establish a €7m software research and development group in Shannon that will focus on high performance computing (HPC) in the cloud for semiconductor design.

Siemens said its expects to create more than 25 jobs in Shannon over the next three years as part of the company's first 'Cloud EDA' R&D group, which will be tasked with delivering cutting-edge cloud HPC environments for Siemens Electronic Design Automation (EDA).

Siemens EDA, formerly Mentor Graphics, has had a presence in Shannon for over 20 years and delivers key financial and business operations for the tech giant worldwide. The project is supported by the government through IDA Ireland.

The site currently employs 150 people, and recruitment has commenced for roles  related to a multi-cloud hybrid PaaS/SaaS project including cloud infrastructure, software development, application security, DevOps, HPC, an EDA.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar welcomed news of the investment and related jobs, which he said "demonstrates the skill and reputation of the company’s existing staff here."
