Poll shows Simon Harris has work to do among voters

Just one-third of people believe Simon Harris will be an effective Taoiseach, a new poll reveals.

In the survey, conducted for DMG Media by Amárach, almost half of respondents (47%) thought a general election should be called this year, as opposed to next year.

The survey of 1,000 nationally representative people found 32% answered Yes to the question: Do you think Simon Harris will be an effective Taoiseach?

And 42% said No, while the remainder, almost 27% did not know.

Support for Mr Harris was marginally higher among women (32%) and in those aged over 55 (39%).

The so-called TikTok Taoiseach will be disappointed that 40% of those aged 18 to 24 believed he would not be effective.

Support was highest for him in Munster (35%), while the greatest number of doubters (43%) were in Connacht or Ulster.

While 47% of people wanted to see a an election this year, 45% would prefer to go to the polls next year.

A slightly higher number of men (48%) and Dubliners (51%) preferred 2025, while the greatest support for a general election this year was in Munster with 51%.
