Dublin City Council has hosted its first SoCircular trade expo in the Mansion House in Dublin.

The event, which was run as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development week, featured over 50 Irish exhibitors who focus on sustainable and efficient goods and services. It was geared as a way for organisations to network directly with innovators as a means of future collaboration.

In addition to the exhibitions, the event also had live demos, expert talks and networking opportunities between businesses and representatives of professional associations, alongside artistic and cultural displays.

It formed part of European Circular Week, alongside the broader Dublin Regional Enterprise Plan to 2024 and the Dublin City Summit Series, and was supported by a raft of government agencies and business representative groups, such as the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform, Ibec and the Department of Rural and Community Development.

Caroline Conroy, Lord Mayor of Dublin, said: “Dublin is currently facing many challenges and will face many more as the impacts from climate change, global economic uncertainty and various trends are felt. Organisations are going to have to transform themselves if they are to thrive in a circular society.

“Early adopters will benefit from the enterprise opportunities and from working with local social and circular enterprises. We need more businesses to work with or purchase from local social and circular enterprises in order to make Dublin a more sustainable city.”

One such exhibitor was the Clever Tots Toy Club, a membership-based monthly toy rental service.

At the Expo is Dublin Lord Mayor Caroline Conroy with Megan Best, founder and CEO Native Events and Bonnie Diamond, Native Events.

The venture was established by husband and wife Didier and Jenel Sanders, who were inspired by toy rental schemes from their time living in Dubai.

Providing toys for children aged 3-36 months, the service chooses toys made from eco-friendly wood or recycled plastic, and each month a new set of toys arrive while the old ones are returned.

Monthly deals start at €39.99, which reduces in price in three, six or twelve-month deals.
