Strike Halts Postal Services

An Post has advised its customers not to post letters or parcels until further notice, effective immediately.

The reason is industrial action by staff of supplier company IO Systems in mails processing centres. These staff are members of the Communications Workers' Union (CWU).

Mail deliveries are operating as usual today (Friday), but there will be no mail collections from businesses due to a withdrawal of labour by IO Systems staff, which disables An Post from processing mail for delivery to customers. A small number of letters were not processed Thursday night due to the industrial action between IO Systems and the CWU.

The company said that Post Office retail services are not affected by the industrial action.
