Sun Life reopens Waterford office following €6m refurbishment

Multinational insurer and financial services company Sun Life has reopened its Waterford office following a €6m renovation aimed at making the building more sustainable as well as equipping it will new technology and Future of Work concepts.

Sun Life employees will have the choice of working in the office or from home, and when they do go into the office they can avail of Wi-FI 6 and several video conferencing facilities set in what the company called "modern, vibrant and comfortable workspaces."

“We want our office to be a magnet, not a mandate – a place where people enjoy collaborating and do great work,” said Pierre Peiclier, managing director of Sun Life Ireland and vice president of IT architecture, data & strategy.

“We are thrilled to offer our talented employees this state-of-the-art office space that supports wellness as well as productivity. Our new office is an investment in the Waterford community and a testament to the amazing talent base we work with, as well as those who will join us in the future in one of the many exciting opportunities, we currently have open.”

The renovated office is on track to become carbon-neutral for energy consumption by the end of the year, and features 276 solar panels that produce 15-20% of Sun Life's electrical needs as well as recycled furniture, low energy LED lights and electric vehicle charging stations.

Sun Life will host an event at the Waterford office today, with special guest Michael Walsh, CEO of Waterford City & County Council, and Laura Money, executive vice president and chief information and technology innovation officer at Sun Life.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar congratulated Sun Life on the reopening and said the government is committed to creating and sustaining jobs right across Ireland.
