If you’re shopping in Tesco between now and next Sunday you can help the supermarket chain raise €300,000 for Temple Street Children's Hospital.

The retailer is calling on customers to support the Children's Health Foundation at the hospital in its drive to fund a much-needed EEG system costing €300,000.

Customers visiting Tesco stores up to Sunday 8 August can support the initiative by donating €1 at the till or at the checkout online, with 100% of the funds raised going to the foundation. And even if you're not shopping, you can make a donation online here.

They have already helped the hospital acquire a new CT scanner by raising €1.2m since last year.

Communications director Rosemary Garth said: “I’m delighted to say that the outstanding generosity from Tesco colleagues and customers has shone through once more and together, and we have raised €1.2m for the CT scanner which we know is badly-needed for the hospital.

“The fundraising doesn’t end there – from conversations with the team at Temple Street, we are now aiming to raise €300,000 for a new EEG system.”

Tesco is dedicated to raising funds for the Children’s Health Foundation and has raised €6m since the partnership began in 2014, she added.

An EEG system is a testing and imaging system that helps identify abnormalities in brain waves or electrical activity in the brain. The existing EEG system hardware at Temple Street is due for an update. The machine is used many times a day by almost all departments: ED, ICU, operating theatres, day and night wards.

Each year Temple Street treats more than 147,000 children, and for thousands of children it’s the only hospital in Ireland where their condition can be treated.
