Virgin Media Business has joined forces with Innovate, a managed IT and cloud service provider, to offer a new software-defined wide area networking solution for mid-market and enterprise customers

Virgin Media Business’s SD-WAN solution combines the power of gigabit speed with the agility of software-defined networks, enabling better application performance, centralised network policy management and more effective cost controls.

Migration to the cloud is the primary driver for SDWAN among businesses today. Virgin Media Business has teamed up with Innovate and Cisco to manage and provide a one-stop solution to deliver multiple applications, across a diverse portfolio, while maintaining end-to-end visibility and service quality over the supporting network.

Smarter business option

Director of business Aidan D’Arcy said:  “Given the speeds of today’s broadband, SD-WAN is making the internet a secure and smarter business option for growth. Now businesses can more cost-effectively add the bandwidth they need across multiple locations to succeed in today’s fast-paced digital economy. Virgin Media Business’ SD-WAN and high-speed broadband network is an innovative offering that can complement any existing business network.”

The company also offers a wide range of multi-gigabit, fibre-based (ethernet) connectivity services across the country. The combination of SD-WAN capabilities and these high-performance connectivity network services creates a powerful offering for mid-market and large enterprises investing in hybrid WAN solutions.

Software-defined wide area networks are of increasing interest to mid-size and larger enterprise and business customers. The reason for this is because traditional WAN architectures are challenged by the need to increase bandwidth, optimise cloud connectivity, and improve security posture.

In Association with

Digital efficiencies

SD-WAN is a response to the shift in business applications from the data centre to the cloud, allowing enterprises to connect their end-user safely and reliably to their third-party cloud platforms and SaaS applications.

To drive digital efficiencies, most IT organisations are centralising applications in the public or private cloud. In addition, the internet edge is moving to the branch office or remote site with the emergence of SaaS applications. Business stakeholders are also asking for new applications and services to be rolled out faster to support new digital initiatives, such as mobile applications, virtual experts, digital signage and more.

Today, IT departments are under pressure to do more with less: managing more sites and more clients with limited budgets and a relatively small team, all without any reduction in reliability and security.

According to D’Arcy: “SD-WAN technology can help customers address the need for secure, intelligent, enterprise-ready platforms that can drive digital businesses. Software-defined WAN technology promises to reduce the cost and complexity of enterprise WANs by automating the ongoing configuration of WAN edge routers, and by running traffic over a hybrid of broadband, MPLS and other WAN links.”
