Sligo LEADER, one of the country's local development companies, has launched a virtual interview practice tool for jobseekers with tips on how to respond to typical interview questions and avoid common pitfalls.
InterVU+ is a three-part online video service developed in partnership with the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), Pobal and the Department of Community and Rural Development under the Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP).
The tool also features advice to candidates on how to best present themselves, and examples of how not to answer questions performed by actors, followed by the model answer.
The video series is designed to improve the interview prospects of young and inexperienced candidates, middle-aged candidates looking for a career change, and candidates hoping to return to the workforce after a prolonged absence.
InterVU+ will be used by Sligo LEADER’s employment support workers in one-to-one sessions with clients who can then use the videos to practise their interview skills in their own time. Users can also request mock interviews with SICAP staff.
"Preparing for an interview can be daunting – especially if it has been many years since you’ve done one. InterVU+ offers our SICAP clients, many of whom are long-term unemployed, a pressure-free environment in which to practise their interview skills," said Fintan Kennedy, chairman of the Sligo LEADER partnershop.
"Our employment support workers can use the tool in one-to-one meetings with clients who can then practice at home. InterVU+ is a chance for our SICAP clients to familiarise themselves with the interview process and rehearse their answers to a range of typical interview questions.”
