Wallace Mobile Homes, one of the first such companies to be set up in Ireland, is expanding into new premises in New Ross as it heads towards celebrations for its 50th year in existence.

Founder Tony Wallace set up the business in the early 1970s as a holiday home park on Duncannon Beach in county Wexford, with his son Philip succeeding him as managing director 13 years ago.

Since then the holiday park has grown and the company opened a showroom in nearby New Ross, where several ranges and sizes of mobile homes are displayed. The facility includes a workshop for the inspection, valeting and refurbishing of mobile homes, and second-hand models are also on sale.

Philip Wallace said: “We are delighted to begin our celebrations for our 50th year in business. The business of the mobile home holiday market has seen so many changes in that time, from predominantly supplying mobile homes to our own holiday park in Duncannon to broadening out that supply to the small number of operators in the south-east in the 1970s and expanding that, largely in the 1980s, as the people of Ireland very much holidayed at home.

“The return of those times is actually in the here and now, as we have seen a whole new appreciation for having a bolthole at home and multiple generations of families coming together to purchase a luxury mobile home.

"We are also seeing a growing number of people purchasing residential spec mobile homes for permanent accommodation, and this is growing rapidly due to the national housing crisis.”

The majority of Wallace mobile homes sold go to holiday parks in the south-east of Ireland, with the company also providing professional advice to individuals requiring a mobile home for private use, and delivering nationwide.

As part of the 50th anniversary the company is holding an Open Weekend on August 13 and 14, running from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

The new premises at Marshmeadows in New Ross is right next to the existing showroom, with easy access to the M11 and just a 20-minute drive to Waterford.
