FORBES BILLIONAIRE LIST FACTOIDS

+ Bill Gates is the number one richest for the third year in a row, with a fortune of $75 billion, down from $79.2 billion last year.

+ Newcomers to the list include U.K. theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh; Pinterest cofounders Evan Sharp and Ben Silbermann; WeWork cofounders Adam Neumann and Miguel McKelvey; Flipkart cofounders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal of India; Cheng Wei, cofounder of ride-hailing firm Didi Kuaidi, a Chinese competitor to Uber.

+ The number of billionaires is 1,810 in 2016, down from a record high of 1,826 billionaires in 2015.

+ 1,186 members of the list are self-made billionaires; 228 inherited their wealth, another 396 inherited at least a portion but are still growing it.

+ The biggest gainer on the 2016 list is Mark Zuckerburg, whose fortune is up $11.2 billion for a total net worth of $44.6 billion. He is the 6th richest in the world.

+ China has 251 billionaires, worth $593 billion, up from 213 billionaires worth $565 billion in 2015. Hong Kong has an additional 65 billionaires.

+ U.S. citizens dominate the ranks with 540 billionaires, worth a collective $2.4 trillion, compared to 536 U.S. billionaires worth $2.6 trillion last year.

+ Regionally, Asia-Pacific boasts the most billionaires, with 590.

+ By country, China follows the United States with 251 billionaires and Germany is next with 120 and India, with 84.

+ Oldest billionaire: David Rockefeller (#569), age 100, with net worth of $3 billion.

+ Billionaire with largest number of children: Roman Adeev, #1694 from Russia, with 23 children.
