Enda McNulty (pictured) of Motiv8 sets out the five essentials for success in your business
After more than a decade working with some of the most successful organisations in the world, our team at Motiv8 Performance Excellence have come to recognise the following as the key factors to succeeding in the world of business.
1. Growth solutions winning mindset: Everybody in business is going to face multiple obstacles regularly, but it’s how we react to roadblocks that affects our success more than anything else. Someone with a growth solutions winning mindset will not get bogged down with the problem that faces them; they will see it as an opportunity to work as a team, or to take a new approach that they haven’t used before.
2. Cohesion and alignment: Plan how to create a team that’s aligned and goal-oriented. Your plan must factor in your weekly meetings, which are imperative to developing a cohesive team, as well as regular one-to-one meetings with every team member to ensure they see the bigger picture of where your company is headed.
The people you hire are critical to this. Do they believe in the vision of your company? Do they live by the values your company feels are imperative for success?
Social events with your team are also critical. Organising fun, team-building activities on a regular basis will have a big impact on how your team relate to each other and work together.
3. Energy management: The key components to energy management are being fit, working hard and resting harder, having a positive mindset and eating well.
By recognising how important it is to support your mind, your body and your well-being, you will begin to prioritise time for exercise, healthy eating, getting a good night’s sleep, and freeing up time for hobbies, friends and family.
4. Winning game plan: A winning game plan will factor in small goals to reach on a daily basis, which will gradually get you towards the company’s ultimate goal. The leadership team should develop the game plan under the guidance of your company’s advisory board, and this should be cascaded down through the organisation.
5. Rehearsal and quality practice: All the high performers we work with, from sports stars to surgeons, stress the importance of rehearsal and preparation in their winning game plans. In the business world, there is a huge focus on performing and not enough on quality practice. The more your team members practice with a focus on quality, the better they’re going to perform.
