Workvivo's employee experience platform will be used by the Ryanair's 19,000 staff after the Cork workplace software developer secured the budget airline as a client.

Ryanair staff at 90 locations in 37 countries will use the Workvivo app across desktop and mobile as the central hub for company communications, including the latest news, posts and operational resources. It will also be used for internal recruitment.

“We’re excited for Workvivo to take off at Ryanair. In organisations all over the world, Workvivo becomes the digital heart and I’m excited to see how Ryanair put their stamp on it," said John Goulding, CEO of Workvivo.

"We’re on a mission to elevate the employee experience no matter whether you’re working in the cockpit or in the check-in hall. We’re delighted to welcome Ryanair on board with our mission.”

Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair DAC, said: "Quick communication with all of our people is essential, not only for disseminating information in a highly regulated environment, but it also brings informality through a social media format that our people are more familiar with.

"This allows all of our people to communicate with one another, share experiences and understand better what we are trying to achieve here at Ryanair in providing the lowest fares with the best punctuality record and most reliable service in Europe."

Europe's largest airline group will brand the Workvivo app internally as Fleethub, and Wilson said it would act as "the fulcrum of all communications within Ryanair".

The Irish airline is aiming to grow annual passenger numbers from 168m to 225m by 2026, and is now operating at around 115% of its pre-Covid capacity. The company also plans to create 2,000 new jobs in Ireland by 2030.

Ryanair announced last month that it made a profit of €210m during the third quarter of its financial year after increasing fares 14% and seeing bumper traffic over the mid-term and Christmas breaks.

Workvivo, founded by Goulding and CTO Joe Lennon, closed a $22m Series B funding round led by Tiger Global last June, bringing the total raised by the firm to $38m. The company employs some 123 people across offices in Cork, Dublin, London and Boston.

Employees using the Workvivo app can post, comment and livestream videos, and the software has integrations for popular workplace apps such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, and Zoom, whose founder Eric S Yuan is an investor in the company, as well as hundreds of HR, CRM and productivity tools.

Workvivo's clients include Amazon, Bupa, TELUS International, Everton FC, and Clipper Logistics. Accounts for 2021 show the company made an annual loss of €4.9m, up from €1.5m in 2020, and net assets of €8.9m.

Turnover grew year-on-year from €1.5m to €6.4m, while payroll jumped from €1.9m to €5.1m, and director remuneration increased from €289,000 to €347,000.
