Social media platform X was targeted by a massive cyber-attack from “somewhere in the Ukraine area”, billionaire Elon Musk claimed yesterday, writes Chris Melore.
The site was down throughout the day for users worldwide – with thousands left unable to log in to their accounts or reload their timelines.
Mr Musk said on X that the hack involved so many resources he believed it could only be the work of a “coordinated group” or a foreign country.
He later told Fox News his company was “still not sure what happened” but claimed the attack came from “IP addresses originating in the Ukraine area”.
His supporters have suggested it is the latest backlash against Mr Musk, who has angered many by joining forces with Donald Trump.
The Tesla owner leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has laid off thousands of US government employees.
Yesterday, hacker group Dark Storm Team claimed it was behind the attack.

According to cyber-security group SpyoSecure, it initiated a DDOS (distributed denial of service), which is like a traffic jam that shuts sites down.
To do so, a hacker sends millions of bots to flood the site, which gets overwhelmed.
