An iconic feature of the North Dublin skyline, Croke Park is both the historic home of Gaelic games and one of Ireland’s premier visitor attractions.

Beyond hosting Ireland’s largest sporting and entertainment events, Croke Park is home to an award-winning conference centre that operates seven days a week, catering to meetings, exhibitions, and social events.

The campus also includes the GAA Museum, open 360 days a year, which, along with the popular Stadium and Skyline Tours, draws school groups, families, and international tourists eager to explore the cultural legacy and panoramic views the stadium offers.

At the heart of all Croke Park’s operations lies a strong commitment to sustainability.

From match days to meetings, every event is planned and delivered with environmental responsibility in mind—reflecting a long-standing ethos of reducing impact while enhancing visitor experience.

WATER HARVESTING

A cornerstone of Croke Park’s water strategy was the installation of a bespoke rainwater harvesting system, the largest of its kind in Ireland.

This state-of-the-art facility collects all rainwater from the stadium’s surface and expansive roof area, storing up to 1.5 million litres in a purpose-built tank constructed at a cost of over €1m.

The tank covers an area of 500sqm and is 8m deep underground, completely out of sight to those passing by!

This system supplies non-potable water for pitch irrigation, and in the future will provide water for toilet flushing, and cleaning operations, significantly reducing the reliance on mains water and lowering the associated energy footprint linked to water treatment and supply. This project was completed in early 2025, with EV charging facilities and covered secure bike parking installed above ground where the tank is located.

A significant project on their sustainability journey.

FLOODLIGHT UPGRADE

Croke Park’s new floodlight upgrade commenced in June 2025.

Stadium Director Peter McKenna said: “Upgrading our floodlights to a state-of-the-art LED system is a major milestone in our drive for sustainability and innovation.

“This new system ensures optimal playing conditions for athletes and creates an immersive atmosphere for fans — whether it’s match day or a major concert.

“The flexibility and efficiency of LED lighting allow us to deliver world-class experiences while significantly reducing our energy use and carbon footprint.”

GREEN AWARDS

Croke Park was honoured with two prestigious accolades at the latest Green Awards, securing both the Green Tourism and Entertainment Award and the Green Medium-Sized Organisation of the Year title.

These recognitions further strengthen the stadium’s position as a frontrunner in sustainable venue management and environmentally responsible operations.

HVO

Croke Park has officially made the switch from diesel to HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) to help power its event day operations, reducing carbon emissions by up to 90% and saving 100 tCO2e per year! Croke Park is proud to embrace this cleaner alternative and is committed to transparency and responsible sourcing.

Its HVO is produced entirely from waste-based feedstocks and is ISCC certified (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification), ensuring it meets strict environmental and social sustainability standards.
