A new Irish app has been listed as one of the top 20 UK health digital startups to watch by leading US healthcare technology analysts.

CareZapp is a free mobile app for family caregivers to create their own network of care, helping them to bring peace of mind and share the care through communication and collaboration tools.

US based HIT Consultant.net praised CareZapp for its holistic platform that enhances in-home caregiving by allowing patients to communicate with their doctors, their families and other patients to provide social support.

“It is fantastic for a startup such as CareZapp to get this recognition from one of the leading commentators in the healthcare technology sector,” said Andrew Macfarlane, founder and CEO of CareZapp.

CareZape uses sensors such as motion alerts which give it the capability to track movements and potentially alert family members or care providers in case of an emergency.

The company recently announced partnerships with specialist UK and Irish charity Autism Initiatives and home care provider MyHomecare.ie. These providers will be using the CareZapp care platform to create new networks of care around people who require care at home, connecting individuals, families and those who can support them in the community and using technology to offer enhanced services.

“The fact that the app is cloud-based, and does not feature proprietary software or hardware, and works in partnership with existing services, means that it is positioned to play a crucial role in what is one of the fastest growing industries in the world – home care,” said McFarlane.

Enterprise Ireland invested €25,000 in the company in December 2014 after McFarlane and four other founders invested €5,000 each.
