Dublin startup Arameye has just released an app called CITLY which could well be a symbol of our times, combining as it does the entirely frivolous with the thoroughly serious.
The free app allows users to generate and share stories, incidents and memories, mostly of nights out, shopping trips, stags, hens and what have you — but also lets you report events to local authorities or the gardai, such as flooded streets, litter, crimes in progress or discovered, or potholes.
Aramaye was founded just last year by Syrian entrepreneur Sufian Al Aswad and employs five people. Its first product allows users to see what is going on at their favourite spots across the city via messages and photos highlighted with sentiment tags, intended to quickly indicate the nature of the post.
Outside Coppers
The user can share and view posts by other users on a simple map interface. CITLY focuses on events in your city or town rather than on collecting friends and followers, and creating a post is restricted to the actual physical location of the smartphone to ensure its authenticity.
Al Aswad said: “Imagine being able to discover what’s happening at your favourite bar from home or work just before you head out. And, wouldn’t it be great to find out that the little café down the road is offering free delicious samples bits – instead of standing in line and paying for your lunch somewhere else. Or imagine being able to look back on Fade Street from last night, or dare check what happened outside Coppers!”
The joys of CITLY are absolutely free from the App Store, the app does not track users, force-display ads, or include in-app purchases, and there is no user-to-user messaging.
