Cork’s business innovation campus Republic of Work has opened the city’s first commercial podcast recording studio on South Mall.

The studio offers a range of services, from straightforward recording to full production of ready-for-upload podcasts. Figures show that more and more people are listening to podcasts every day — in the US, 46% of people surveyed have listened to at least one podcast.

Staff with backgrounds in radio are on hand to provide production and editing options at the broadcast-quality studio, which is used by national radio stations TodayFM and Newstalk.

The first podcast to emerge from the studio is Republic of Work’s own podcast, Innovate, covering a range of global, national and local news, interviews and its own activities.

DC Cahalane of Republic of Work said: “We spotted a gap in the market for podcast production. While podcasts can be produced virtually anywhere, this is a unique purpose-built facility that operates to the highest broadcasting standard. This guarantees a high-quality end product that can help sell and promote products and businesses.

“We are very excited about a schools programme we are preparing which will see students get first-hand experience recording and producing podcasts.”

The cost of using the studio facilities starts from €75 plus VAT per hour for a DIY recording. The cost with a sound engineer is €110,  rising to €150 per hour to include sound engineer plus full editing and post-production, marketing and upload.
