IRDG Innovation Skillnet has launched a hands-on programme designed to equip senior small and medium-sized enterprise leaders.

The organisers say the course provides the tools, frameworks and peer support to accelerate innovation, competitiveness and growth.

The Strategic Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme for SMEs is a part of Skillnet Ireland’s new Pathway to Innovate support for companies, which aims to help regional SMEs not only navigate the route to innovation, but convert it into business growth.

The programme will initially be open to 12 SMEs, with two leaders from each company, in a hybrid format.

The in-person sessions will take place in the Engine Hub, Limerick, with online masterclasses.

Each participating firm will complete the programme with a tailored Innovation Diagnostic Report and Roadmap.

The organisers say it will provide "a strengthened leadership entrepreneurial capability and a 90-day execution plan tied directly to live business projects."

Participation is fully funded for the selected companies, and the programme will run from October to December 2025.

Curriculum modules will cover Innovation Foundations, Design Thinking, Business Model Innovation, AI Transformation for SMEs, and Leadership and Culture.

Participants will receive individual company mentoring and a post-course toolkit.

The programme, which is open for applications until September 24th, will be delivered by highly experienced facilitators with a deep understanding of real challenges faced by SMEs.

The programme consists of a two-day, in-person diagnostic workshop in early October, followed by a series of online masterclasses, two further in-person days mid-programme, and a final integration and showcase meeting in December.

Growth-oriented Irish SMEs across any sector with a focus on new products, services or processes, who need structured support to accelerate, will benefit from their involvement in the programme.

The course is designed for all SMEs, including busy owner-managers, founders, CEOs, senior managers and innovation leads, with minimal disruption to daily operations.

This model ensures structured peer learning and measurable impact, which is of great benefit to SMEs.

Eoin McDonnell, Head of Strategic Programmes, Skillnet Ireland said: “Skillnet Ireland’s Pathway to Innovate accelerates innovation and entrepreneurial thinking through business-led skills programmes. IRDG Innovation Skillnet brings its proven expertise in innovation leadership to SMEs.

"The Strategic Innovation and Entrepreneurship programme equips business leaders with the tools, mindset, and peer network to drive real change.”
