Dublin taxi app Lynk is to invest €12.5m in an ambitious move to expand into the US market, to be followed within months by a similar expansion into the British market.
As well as that, Lynk plans to go nationwide in Ireland, partnering with local taxi businesses that offer strong community links and superior knowledge of their local area.
Launched in February 2015, Lynk has delivered two million trips in Dublin and its suburbs, with a rapidly growing fleet of over 2,500 community taxis. Lynk employs 70 people in Dublin, with a new recruitment drive due in the coming months.
In the US, Lynk will use ‘Riide’ branding to work with local taxi companies on a franchise basis, in New York, Boston and Washington, during the initial expansion phase. The service is expected to launch by end of 2016, the company says.
Lynk has also launched new feature, Lynk for Business. This service allows business customers to book taxis by app, as well as by website and phone. Lynk claims that this add-on makes it the easiest way to book a taxi for business people on the go and offers the option to book now or for later. It can be accessed through any computer and offers the additional functions of booking multiple cars, viewing job history and seeing the cost on all trips.
CEO Noel Ebbs (pictured) said: “Our drive is to keep expanding and keep innovating. What makes us special is that we always do this in a way that reflects our customer-focused ethos. We work with community taxi drivers who offer great local knowledge, and ensure our customers’ needs come first.”
The app is available from the App Store or Google Play.
