Sisters Valerie and Sabrina Sherlock are planning to reopen a landmark Drogheda hotel that was put out of business by Covid trading restrictions.
The Westcourt Hotel in Drogheda ceased trading in 2020. In July 2020, general manager Valerie Sherlock announced “with great sadness” that the hotel would not reopen for the foreseeable future.
"Given the current economic and public health situation, the owners and management of the hotel do not believe there is a commercial or safe basis for reopening at this time,” she stated.
Now Valerie and her sister Sabrina have taken on the lease for the premises and are renaming it The Marcy Hotel.
The say the boutique style hotel will have modern and contemporary vibe whilst honouring the history of the building on West Street in the heart of Drogheda town.
Valerie Sherlock, who ran the Westcourt for 23 years, said the Marcy will open in phases during 2022. Initially the hotel will offer overnight accommodation only, with plans to re-open the bar and restaurant later this year.
Valerie Sherlock stated: “Sabrina and I have been in hospitality all of our working lives. We know that the difference between a ‘hotel’ and ‘hospitality’ is the experience you have, the people you interact with and how they unlock the secrets of the local area for you.
“Drogheda is a wonderful location for tourists and we look forward to offering our visitors a great experience to help them make the most of their stay.”
Over time, the sisters plan a facelift for the exterior and a new colour scheme and restyling for the hotel lobby, corridors and stairwells.
A schedule of refurbishment of the bedrooms is also underway which includes superior bedding and linens, Nespresso machines and enhanced WiFi.
Online bookings for bedrooms will be live in mid-April and the hotel will be open to its first guests from Saturday May 7.
